Whether it’s a mocktail or a cocktail – it’s all about taste.

When the summer heat hits, there’s nothing we like better than spending time outdoors with family, friends and clients with a cool beverage in hand. To inspire your own gatherings, here are two delicious elixirs that can elevate any get-together.

These drinks were originally crafted and tested at the first annual Loring Alley Live in May. Each concoction passed the “guest test” and brings something very delicious and different to the table.

Our Midsummer Mezcarita is a fresh take on the classic Marg with an intoxicating infusion of smoky sweet tartness. And a beautiful orange hue, of course.
Ingredients:
1 oz la Luna Cupreata mezcal
1 oz Hornitos Reposado Tequila
1 oz fresh lime juice
.25 oz Grand Marnier
.5 oz blood orange syrup

Instructions:
  1. Pour all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker.
  2. Fill shaker halfway with ice
  3. Shake vigorously
  4. Pour the contents of the shaker into a glass, including the ice
  5. Garnish with a half lime wheel

Our Back Patio Collins is a lighter (spirit-optional) option that features a refreshing mix of herbs, cucumber, lime and a splash of seltzer. It’s perfectly delicious as a mocktail, or can be happily fortified with gin.
Ingredients:
2 1/2 inch slices cucumber, quartered
2 large slices lime, quartered
3-4 large mint leaves
2-3 large basil leaves
1 ounce simple syrup
2 to 3 ounces seltzer
Cucumber and lime slice, for garnish
optional: 2 ounces gin

Instructions:
  1. In a cocktail shaker, add the cucumber, lime, basil, mint and simple syrup.
  2. Muddle well.
  3. Fill the shaker with ice, and shake. (Add gin if desired.)
  4. Strain your drink into your favorite lowball glass filled with ice, then top off with seltzer.
  5. Garnish with cucumber & lime.

As always, we’d love to hear your reviews of our recipes—or your own take on them!  The Spyglass patio always welcomes amateur mixologists (and those who love being taste-testers). Happy Midsummer & happy sipping!
