It is said that on St Patrick’s Day we’re all a little Irish . . . and indeed we’ve done our share of sipping black & tans, tipping back Jameson shots, even swilling plastic glasses of neon green beer! This year, however, we’re opting to celebrate the day a bit differently — with a spirited whiskey cocktail infused with our favorite flavor and hue. We’ve paired a fine Irish spirit with some bright citrus spunk and the result, like a Spyglass branding presentation, is simply intoxicating. Sláinte!
A Little Spyrish
- 3 oz Irish Whiskey (we chose a smoky single malt to keep it classy & interesting)
- ½ orange, squeezed (we chose blood orange, because we bleed orange, duh)
- 1 lemon squeezed
- 1.5 oz dry vermouth
- 1 oz honey water (½ honey, ½ water)
- 1 splash of Harp beer (optional, but adds effervescence & more Irish cred)
- 4 dashes orange bitters
Add all ingredients to a shaker filled with ice and shake vigorously. Taste and adjust citrus, honey and bitters to your desired sweetness. Pour into two coupes & garnish with an orange peel. Raise a glass and tipple until you start seeing leprechauns!
